The QUEST Supervision

			QuEST Training Program

All SBQMI members are eligible to supervise QuEST award, and non-award students.

Incoming PhD students are expected to have a prospective supervisor matched prior to arriving at UBC (required by PhAs). MSc students are not required to have a confirmed supervisor prior to arrival, but are strongly encouraged to contact potential supervisors in your area of research.

Prospective students should first visit the SBQMI website ( to search for potential supervisors. They should then begin a dialogue with these faculty members to determine if the student will be a good fit for their prospective research group. Once mutual interest has been established, please proceed to complete the QuEST application.

Co-supervision arrangements are especially encouraged where a greater breadth of expertise (for example complimentary approaches) benefits the student's project. External PhD supervisory committee members from collaborating partners may be considered valuable in cases where the student will spend significant time working in collaboration with the external partner.

Students awarded QuEST support that later choose a supervisor not affiliated with SBQMI will have to forfeit their QuEST support.
